How to be more confident when you sing.
Dec 16, 2025I’m going to be honest: if there were an Olympics for “thinking of every possible thing that could go wrong before you sing,”
I would have taken home the gold.
My brain used to go wild:
“What if I crack?”
“What if I forget the words?”
“What if everyone thinks I suck?”
(Drama much? Yes. Singer brains are.… special. 😂)
Which is why what I experienced at Carnegie Hall years later still kinda shocks me…
A moment where I stood on one of the most iconic stages in the world- Carnegie Hall- and instead of feeling the fear that once lived in my body like a second skin…
I felt pure exhilaration. 😆
I felt free.
I felt me.
And the irony?
Carnegie Hall is also where I had the worst performance of my life…. several years earlier… not long after my dad died. I was grieving, numb, terrified, and disconnected from myself.
I got through the performance, but I didn’t feel present for a single second of it.
So when I returned to Carnegie Hall, I was afraid that old version of me- the tense, shaky, self-doubting one- might show up again.
But she didn’t.
Because by then, I had done the deeper work.
The real work.
The work most teachers/coaches don't talk about in traditional vocal training.
The work of releasing perfectionism, quieting the inner critic, and reconnecting to my body and my voice in a holistic, gentle way.
The work of learning how to sing from self-connection instead of self-judgement.
From freedom instead of fear.
That night, I stepped onto that stage and felt something really I had never felt before:
➡️ I was completely unapologetic with my voice.
➡️ I allowed myself to sing full out, took risks, & just went for it.
➡️ I wasn’t “performing”- I was expressing.
It felt like I was flying.
And as I walked offstage, all I could think was:
“Every singer deserves to feel this.”
What if you walked into your next audition, karaoke night, rehearsal, lesson, or living-room solo with that kind of confidence?
What if you no longer picked apart your voice?
What if your singing didn’t feel like a test- or a tightrope- but a homecoming?
What if you let yourself be bigger, not smaller?
What if you let your voice take up space?
What if you experienced singing as joy instead of judgment?
Take a breath and imagine this:
You open your mouth to sing and…
✨ Your body softens.
✨ Your breath supports you.
✨ Your voice feels warm, effortless, & trustworthy.
✨ You feel connected to yourself, connected to the song, the words- not lost in your head.
✨ And the sound that comes out feels like the truest version of you.
That’s what becomes possible when you use a holistic voice approach.
When you stop obsessing over technique and instead bring in ALL the parts of yourself…
confidence stops being something you chase-
it becomes something you embody.
If you’re thinking…
“But Erin, I’ve been scared of singing for so long.”
“I’ve built so many bad habits.”
“I’m too old to start over.”
“I don’t trust my voice anymore.”
“What if I freeze? What if I fail? What if I look foolish?”
I get it.
Truly.
Here’s what I want you to hear:
Fear doesn’t mean you’re not ready.
Fear means you’re standing at the doorway of something meaningful.
You don’t overcome fear by pushing harder.
👉🏻You overcome fear by becoming more connected to yourself. (And just doing the darn thing.)
That’s what rewired everything for me! Including that night at Carnegie Hall.
Not more control.
Not more perfection.
Not “fixing” myself.
But learning how to:
✨ Listen to my body
✨ Quiet my inner critic
✨ Let go of old stories
✨ Warm up gently & regularly
✨ Connect to ease
✨ Sing from authenticity
✨ Trust my voice again
And when those things changed?
Everything changed.
This is the belief I want you to hold today:
You already have the voice you’re longing for.
You just need a different way of accessing it.
A way that gives you freedom, confidence, and self-connection
without pressure, perfectionism, or obsessing over technique.
If you can picture yourself singing with that kind of freedom, even for a second,
you’re closer than you think.
And I’d love to help you get there.
With so much love and belief in you,
Erin
